The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed 85% of Al Wukair Road upgrading works, it was announced on Sunday.
An official statement said that the Health Centre Roundabout has been converted into a signalised intersection, and that the conversion of Al Wakra Hospital Roundabout is nearing completion.
All remaining works are scheduled to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2022.
Muneera al-Mohannadi, project engineer in Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department, said that the remaining works include laying the final asphalt layer, interlock works, street lighting installation, road marks, and signs.
Upon completion of all works, the project will provide 4km of pedestrian walkways alongside 2km of Al Wukair Road, convert two roundabouts into signalised intersections, and upgrade the treated sewage effluent (TSE) network, surface, and stormwater lines.
The road serves many service facilities, shops, commercial centres, and educational and health institutions.
The conversion of the two existing roundabouts into signalised intersections will improve traffic flow in the area.
The works are implemented as part of Ashghal's efforts to improve the existing services and utilities and upgrade the road network in several areas in the country, to cope with the national economic development and social growth requirements in Qatar.
