Dashing batsman Fakhar Zaman sparkled with the bat again as Lahore Qalandars yesterday beat former champions Peshawar Zalmi by 29 runs in match nine of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Left-handed Zaman hit three towering sixes and six fours as he scored 66 to help Qalandars reach a match-winning total of 199 for 4 in 20 overs. Abdullah Shafique hit 41 while veteran Mohamed Hafeez scored 37 not out.
Three days ago, Zaman smashed 106 against Karachi Kings after he had scored 76 against Multan Sultans last week.
After setting a target of 200 to win, Lahore Qalandars skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi set the tone for his team by dismissing Zalmi opener Hazratullah Zazai for a duck off the third ball of the innings. The loss of the early wicket put Zalmi on the backfoot and regular wickets by Qalandars never allowed Peshawar to stage a comeback in the game.
For Zalmi, Kamran Akmal and Haidar Ali made 41 and 49 respectively, but their team was unable to catch up with the high required run-rate.
