Acting Executive Director of the Centre of Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan) Khalid Abdullah Hussein has underlined the great attention Qatar attaches to the elderly, noting the launch of several initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life and raise the level of services offered to this category, based on religious duty and cultural values.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of the seminar organised Tuesday by Ehsan in co-operation with Qatar Assistive Technology Center (Mada) within the activities of Doha International Book Fair, Hussein said Ehsan is among the most important centres concerned with the elderly.
He explained that Ehsan seeks to empower the elderly to enjoy a decent, safe and productive life, through strategic objectives, including providing empowerment and necessary care programmes for the elderly, educating the society about the rights and basic needs of the elderly, enhancing solidarity between generations and encouraging opportunities for interaction among them, as well as building and developing the institutional capacities of all members and institutions of the society towards the elderly.
Hussein added that Ehsan's message is consistent with the mission of Qatar Social Work Foundation, and contributes to providing the necessary care services for the elderly in Qatar, empowering them and integrating them into society, and spreading community awareness of their rights, based on the second pillar of the social development in Qatar National Vision 2030.
He noted that Ehsan will hold several workshops, activities and educational seminars in various social, psychological, technical and cultural fields for all segments of the society through interactive and online workshops, to enable the society to interact with the elderly and keep pace with their needs according to a psychological and social perspective.
The centre is also keen on signing memorandums of understanding with several local institutions to strengthen the co-operation and provide all forms of empowerment and care for the elderly in the Qatari society.
