Traffic cameras on Qatar roads, especially those at the signals, have been activated to spot motorists who use mobile phones while driving, a senior official of the Ministry of Interior said.
"Using mobile phones while driving is a risky and grave practice," Col Dr Mohamed Radi al-Hajiri, director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Directorate of Traffic, pointed out during the popular 'My Beloved Country' programme on Qatar Radio.
"Some people get addicted to the use of mobile phones for not only making and receiving calls but also other communication purposes while driving. Recently, a lady driving with her children was issued a traffic violation as she was busy talking on the phone," he recalled.
Col al-Hajiri reiterated that such violations will be dealt with strictly and action in this regard has been launched.
Regarding the movement of caravans on the roads, the official said they are only allowed on the roads between 8am and 5pm.
"This is to ensure that caravans are transported only during daylight hours in the interest of public safety as better visibility is essential for easy and timely access in the event of any accident, emergency or breakdown," Col al-Hajiri added.
