The sixth local date festival, organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) and Souq Waqif, will conclude on Friday, July 30 from 4pm to 10pm. The festival, which opened on July 15, recorded sales of a total of 114 tonnes, until Wednesday, the MME announced on Thursday. Among the varieties of dates sold, the most important Khalas, Shishi, Khenizi, Barhi and others.
The festival comes within the framework of the great interest that Qatar attaches to supporting and encouraging local production of all national products, including dates, and in conjunction with the dates production season in the country, and within the efforts aimed at achieving food security, and attention and keenness to develop the agricultural sector, including palm trees. It is to be noted that for the sixth year, this festival is being organised in Souq Waqif, especially since the fruitful co-operation between the ministry and the market administration played a key role in the success and continuity of the festival.
