Qatar participated in the 12th edition of the International Economic Summit 'Russia-Islamic World', which was held in the capital of Tatarstan, Kazan, under the patronage of President of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation Rustam Minnikhanov.
Qatar was represented by ambassador of Qatar to Russia Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser al-Thani. During the summit, rounds on Islamic banking were held, as well as dialogues -- amongst the participation of the young diplomats from the countries of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), and the Russian Halal Expo Exhibition for halal products in the Russian Federation. This is in addition to other activities that aim to introduce opportunities for trade and economic co-operation between Russian regions and Islamic countries.
During his speech on behalf of Qatar, Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser al-Thani affirmed that the summit is an important economic event that brings together representatives of institutions and businesspersons from Russia and Arab and Islamic countries, with the aim of strengthening co-operation by identifying investment and trade opportunities between these countries. He noted the extensive relations of co-operation between Qatar and the friendly Russian Federation, adding that they have been reflected in St Petersburg International Economic Forum, which was held in June this year.
