The environmental section in the Protection & Wildlife Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) revealed Sunday that the first hatching of the endangered hawksbill sea turtles was recorded at Fuwairit Beach, coinciding with World Environment Day which is being celebrated this year under the slogan Generation Restoration.
Under the direct oversight of the head of department Taleb Khaled A1-Shahwani, the team recorded the necessary data and released 53 hawksbill sea turtle newborns that returned to the sea under full safety measures for the project team, MME said in a social media post Sunday. So far, 92 nests were moved to the protected site at Fuwairit Beach.

The project to protect the endangered hawksbill sea turtles is being undertaken by the Environmental Science Center at Qatar University under the supervision of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment with funding from Qatar Petroleum. The project covers Qatar's northeastern beaches: Ras Laffan, Al-Huwaila, Jassassiya, Maroona, Fuwairit, and Al-Mfier.
