Hamad Medical Corporation’s Center for Patient Experience and Staff Engagement (CPESE) has announced the resumption of the Person-Centred Care (PCC) Ambassadors Programme and is calling on members of the community to volunteer for the programme.
Since its launch, the PCC ambassadors composed of both Qatari nationals and expatriates of various skills and professions were assigned by CPESE to select HMC facilities to perform tasks such as wayfinding, ‘meet and greet’ the patients, guiding patients to their appointments, and generally supporting patients and family members during their continuum of care.
As Qatar gradually lifts Covid-19-related restrictions from May 28, the PCC ambassadors programme resumes its operations. The reactivation of the programme comes after putting it on hold to minimise the effects of the second wave of the virus in early April 2021.
To ensure safety of the PCC Ambassadors’ health, in collaboration with Communicable Disease Center, each one of them has received a complete dose of Covid-19 vaccination prior to being assigned at HMC facilities such as Ambulatory Care Center, Enaya Specialised Care Center, and National Center for Cancer Care and Research. The PCC Ambassadors are equipped and trained on Infection Control, Fire Safety, and Compassionate Human Interactions.
“The PCC Ambassadors Programme primarily cultivates a culture of Person-Centred Care across the organisation. It creates a strong bond between patients, family members and staff that culminates to enhancing the overall patient experience in HMC. We owe the success of this programme to all the volunteers who have generously devoted their time and efforts for our patients,” said Nasser al-Naimi, deputy chief of quality for CPESE and director of Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute.
Taifa Naeem, one of the PCC Ambassadors said, “It’s the sense of fulfilment from making a difference in people’s lives that inspired and made me decide to join the PCC Ambassadors Programme. I grew up from a family who volunteers to serve our fellow men. I see this programme as an avenue for me to continue my family’s legacy of ‘giving back’ to the community.”
