The summer season has ushered in a variety of campaigns being promoted by hypermarkets across the country. Items like ‘above ground’ swimming pools and swimming accessories, among other products, have become popular, and are now available at discounted prices, it is learnt.
According to LuLu Group International regional manager Shanavas P M, “there was a shortage” of above ground swimming pools, as well as swimming accessories, last year. This summer, however, the hypermarket chain has an adequate supply of swimming pools and accessories to address market demand, he said.
On LuLu’s website, the company is offering a range of deals in groceries, fresh food, electronic and mobile devices, home and living products, and lifestyle-related items. Shanavas also said the store is promoting the ‘LuLu Fashion 19-29-39 New Deals’, which will run until June 5.
“For appliances like air conditioners and TVs, there was less demand from customers compared to the previous years because a few families are coming to the country due to travel restrictions. But in the categories of small domestic appliances, we noticed some improvement,” he explained.
On customer footfall, Shanavas also explained that fewer people went outdoors because of the Covid-19-related health and safety protocols, and because of the hot temperatures.
“But with salaries expected to be released by the end of the month, establishments usually expect again a surge in customer footfall. There are usually fewer customers between the 15th and 27th of the month, he also pointed out.
Shanavas also said LuLu recorded month-on-month progress on the company’s online sales, citing improvements in its delivery services, which have been extended up to areas like Al Khor.
There is also an improvement in the sales of local products, according to Shanavas but because of the summer season, the availability of some vegetables “has come down.” “We are giving extra priority to local products, which is why we are promoting them and giving them more visibility in our shelves,” he said.
He added: “We have 100% availability of locally-produced dairy products in our shelves, chips and other snacks are also being supplied by local companies; for non-food items, there is a wide range of locally-made detergents and other cleaning products, tissue papers, and other disposable items.”
Only recently, other hypermarkets also promoted their respective campaigns. Ansar Gallery launched its ‘Big Sale up to 50% Off’ promo, which ran from April 29 to May 26, while the ‘Safari 16th Anniversary Offers’ of Safari Mall will go on until May 31.
Al Meera held discount promos during Ramadan and Eid. Earlier this month, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company announced its acquisition of two properties from Qatari Diar. The properties, located in Lusail’s Fox Hills District and North Residential Villas District, will serve the surrounding neighbourhoods and visitors to Lusail thus, adding to Al Meera’s extensive network of 59 branches across the State of Qatar.
On Carrefour Qatar’s loyalty programme, MyCLUB App, different promos are ongoing until June 1 on groceries, electronics and more; ‘best offers’ on appliances and TVs; ‘tech fest’ for smartphones and accessories; deals on dining and kitchen items; and other promos on beverages and snacks.
