UCC Holding (UCC), a diversified business conglomerate, has launched a series of new Occupational Safety and Health Systems (OSH) awareness initiatives to commemorate World Day of Safety at Work. The initiatives "build on the company’s proud track record of health and safely excellence", UCC has said in a statement.
World Day of Safety at Work is an international event led by the International Labour Organisation that celebrates successes and contributions towards improving safety throughout every part of a company or organisation.
Reflecting on the global pandemic, this year's theme is centred on anticipating, preparing and responding to crises, with the motto 'Invest Now in Resilient Occupational Safety and Health Systems'.
UCC’s management team leveraged this global event to raise awareness and stimulate dialogue around the importance of creating and investing in resilient OSH systems, drawing on both regional and country examples in mitigating and preventing the spread of Covid-19 in the workplace.
Hundreds of UCC colleagues marked the occasion by creating banners, memos and social media posts to highlight exceptional achievements and initiatives that are helping make the workplace safer for all. As well as sharing information and stories around HSE best practice, UCC colleagues were issued with branded protective helmets, high-vis vests and other props to make it a day to remember, the statement noted.
Moutaz al-Khayyat, chairman of UCC Holding, said: “Health and safety is our upmost priority every day. This year’s World Day of Safety at Work is particularly significant as UCC, like every global business, reflects on the valuable lessons learned following the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The current crisis demonstrates the importance of strengthening OSH systems, including occupational health services, and we are unwavering in our commitment to ensuring a healthy workplace for all. I would like to thank everyone at UCC for their great efforts today, and their continued commitment to health and safely excellence.”
