Abdulrahman al-Mannai, President of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and Losail Circuit Sports Club, said he was pleased and proud that Qatar is hosting the two rounds of the MotoGP championship.
Last weekend the new MotoGP season opened at the Losail International Circuit with the Barwa Grand Prix of Qatar, which was won by Yamaha rider Maverick Viniales. From today, the Tissot Grand Prix of Doha will be held.
Al-Mannai said: “It’s exceptional and evidence of and Losail Circuit Sports Club’s readiness to successfully host the MotoGP championship in the current climate. We saw very impressive racing in the first round, where new circuit record was broken. We expect the same in the next round, given the experience gained by the teams in the first round, which gives them the ability to make the necessary changes to provide better performance on Sunday.
Al-Mannai praised the cooperation and coordination between the QMMF, and Losail Circuit Sports Club and all state institutions and agencies in preparing for the event, especially the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior, in addition to Hamad International Airport, the General Authority of Customs, the Supreme Committee for Projects and Legacy and the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Meanwhile, due to restrictions imposed to combat the spread of Covid-19 and to ensure the safety of everyone, the QMMF has decided to postpone the third round of the Baja FIM World Cup 2021 until further notice.
