Qatar University (QU) College of Health Sciences (CHS) recently held the CHS Day to celebrate its achievements for the 2020-21 academic year.
The virtual celebration showcased the college’s achievements on the academic, research, professional and community service fronts. The ceremony was attended by Dr Egon Toft, vice-president for Medical and Health Sciences, Prof Asma al-Thani, associate vice-president for strategic planning, and Dr Hanan Abdul Rahim, dean of the College of Health Sciences, in addition to college faculty members, students, parents and representatives from various healthcare partners.
During the ceremony, some 174 of the clinical preceptors and supervisers were recognised for their support to the clinical and practical training of three departments: Biomedical Sciences, Human Nutrition and Public Health.
Dr Abdul Rahim thanked the healthcare partners from Aspetar, Hamad Medical Corporation, the Ministry of Public Health, Qatar Diabetes Association, Qatar Foundation, Sidra Medicine and Primary Health Care Corporation for their substantial contribution in supporting CHS students during clinical placement, especially in the challenging Covid-19 conditions.
Dr Abdul Rahim said, “Your contributions to our students’ training are what make our programmes so successful. Your mentorship and supervision not only teach skills, but shape the professional perspectives of our students as well."
During the ceremony, the departments presented highlights of their academic, research, and service achievements through video presentations.
In addition, 47 students from the three programmes - Biomedical Science, Human Nutrition and Public Health - donned their white coats signalling that they have reached the clinical practice milestone of their degrees.
The white coat ceremony was presented through three videos reciting the Code of Ethics Guidelines of the Academic Accreditation bodies of the professions.
The college also celebrated the successful completion of the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification exam for 10 of the Biomedical Sciences programme graduates.
Dr Toft praised the efforts of the academic, technical and administrative staff of the college and said, “The College of Health Sciences has shown skill, energy, and enthusiasm to tackle contemporary health challenges through active research efforts and high quality programmes that will continue to innovate per the needs of the country."
