HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie attended the Qatar Environment Day celebrations, held under the theme 'Together for our health and environment', by participating in a campaign held to clean up Rawdat Althemaid in the Al Riffa area.

The campaign was conducted in the presence of Hassan Juma al-Mohannadi, assistant undersecretary at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) for Environment Affairs; Abdulla Mohamed al-Falassi, director of the Public Relations Department, Sabah Rabiah al-Kuwari, director of PR at Ooredoo; Saleh Ali al-Marri, head of the wildlife section at the MME's Protection and Wildlife Department, and a number of MME officials and representatives from the participating entities.
Accordingly, the minister stressed that the aim of the occasion is to enhance the awareness of youngsters and society about the importance of protecting the environment and considering it as a religious and ethical duty to keep it in good shape for the next generations, the MME said in a statement.
He also praised the participation of school students in cleanup campaigns across the country on this occasion, which reflects a high level of awareness among youngsters and the efforts exerted by different educational institutions in this regard.
He said there is considerable co-ordination between the MME and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, providing several programmes to students on related issues such as cleaning campaigns at public beaches and other places, as well as planting initiatives such as the campaign to plant 1mn trees.
HE the Minster then toured Rawdat Althemaid to review its trees and plants as well as the key projects of participating students in the field of planting trees. He also appreciated their efforts to preserve the environment and called for the continued effort and progress in this regard.
Al-Mohannadi stressed the importance of Qatar Environment Day in raising public awareness on related issues.
