A joint campaign to remove abandoned vehicles at Umm Slal Municipality was launched yesterday.
The Committee to Remove Abandoned Vehicles, the Mechanical Equipment Department, and the General Cleanliness Department are carrying out the initiative in co-operation with Umm Slal Municipality.
The campaign also enforces the stipulations of Law No. 18 for 2017 on Public Hygiene.
Jassim al-Kubaisi, the head of the General Control Section at Umm Slal Municipality, Lieutenant Yousef Fahd al-Ali from the Traffic Department and member of the committee, Lieutenant Mohamed Jassim al-Tamimi from the Internal Security Forces (Lekhwiya), and other representatives from the participating entities of the committee, were present.
Al-Kubaisi said it is expected that the campaign could result in removing around 80 abandoned vehicles and equipment within the municipality.
All the abandoned vehicles have been spotted and work is ongoing to remove them.
He further called on the owners of such vehicles to co-operate with the committee and remove them to avoid the legal consequences.
Lieutenant al-Ali said the traffic department ensures the campaign does not cause any hindrance to the movement of vehicles.
Lieutenant al-Tamimi added that the phenomenon of abandoned vehicles has environmental consequences as well.
