As part of the Katara International Arabian Horse Festival, which is being held under the generous patronage of His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Katara – the Cultural Village and the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised an auction for qualified purebred Arabian horses Friday evening.
The auction was held under strict precautionary protocols in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, including social distancing and use of face mask.

As many as 11 horses were put on auction, out of which six were sold — Rabban Al Khor (bay horse), Ghazi Al Nasser (grey stallion), Baher Al Shaqab (bay horse), Wafi Aljazeel (chestnut colt), Gharshoubat Al Hazza (yearling filly) and Jawad Al Shahania (chestnut stallion).
Ghazi Al Nasser reached the highest selling price at QAR 200,000, while Gharshoubat Al Hazza and Jawad Al Shahania fetched QAR 100,000 each.
Badr Mohamed al-Darwish, the Title Show Manager, praised the professional organizational level of the horse auction, which witnessed the participation of the most prominent purebred Arabian horse breeds.
Al-Darwish added that the festival is one of the largest international horse shows, and it will witness a large presence of the best international horses. He thanked all the partners of the festival, especially the sponsors. He said that the festival witnessed, even before its official launch, great cooperation from among the partners and the organizing committee, especially Katara. He wished success to all the owners participating in the festival.
He thanked Prof. Khaled bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, Chairman of the Festival's Organizing Committee and Katara General Manager, for his great efforts in ensuring the festival is hosted in a wonderful atmosphere on Katara Beach, amidst strict precautionary measures.
The auction was for the horses that were registered and certified to participate in the Title Show 2021 Qatar International Arabian Horse Championships.
The auction furthers the endeavours of the State of Qatar in becoming a global center for the most authentic and highest-quality Arabian horse auctions, thereby by preserving the purebred Arabian breed. The auction also aims to provide an opportunity for interested owners, breeders and lovers of purebred Arabian horses to acquire the best horses for participation in horse shows locally and internationally.
