HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said Doha has been open to a dialogue from the beginning of the Gulf crisis to find a just solution based on mutual respect and respect for the sovereignty of each country.
In a live interview broadcast by the Global Security Forum (GSEC) 2020, Qatar’s foreign minister said his country welcomes a dialogue based on respect for sovereignty, considering that there is no winner from the Gulf crisis.
HE Sheikh Mohamed said Qatar had not carried out any hostile action against the blockading countries, stressing that “all the allegations directed against Qatar and the reason for imposing the blockade are false”, Al Jazeera said.
“Pleased to be part of this year’s GSEC Forum,” he tweeted. I reaffirmed during my talk that making the utmost contribution to the promotion of international peace and security through dialogue and co-operation remains the cornerstone of Qatar’s foreign policy.”
During the Global Security Forum session titled ‘A View from the Middle East’, the foreign minister expressed Qatar’s appreciation for the efforts made by the late Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, to resolve the Gulf crisis, which the current Amir, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, continues.
He also stressed that his country wants to find solutions to the stability of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), and that it has all good intentions to participate constructively and reach a just solution for all member states.
The foreign minister also said his country appreciates Iran opening its airspace to Qatar under the blockade, and it seeks a fruitful dialogue to resolve differences in the region.
He said the region does not need a new arms race, and that more efforts should be made to find a diplomatic solution to the differences with Iran.
HE Sheikh Mohamed also stressed that Qatar may play any role in the framework of diplomacy, and that it wants to avoid any escalation in the region.
On the Palestinian issue, he said the position of Qatar is that the root causes of the dispute have to be addressed in a way that guarantees the rights of the Palestinians to establish an independent state.
HE Sheikh Mohamed added that it is better to have a united front that takes into account the interest of the Palestinians and the two-state solution.
With regard to the file of the Afghan peace talks that Doha has hosted, HE the Minister said peace among the Afghans themselves is the next important step .
He pointed out that Washington is working closely with Doha to find a solution to the Afghanistan issue, and “we hope to see progress before the end of the year”, Aljazeera added.
