The Ministry of Interior stressed Thursday that protecting human rights is the backbone of the comprehensive policy reforms undertaken by the State of Qatar.
This came during the speech of Director of the Human Rights Department Brigadier General Abdullah Saqr al Mohannadi to mark the Qatari Human Rights Day which falls on Nov. 11 of every year, which coincides with Amiri Decree no. 38 of the year 2002 establishing the National Human Rights Committee. He said that the occasion marks a renewal of Qatar's commitment to human rights nationally, regionally, and internationally. He added that the protection of human rights is a national responsibility, according to the UN Charter.
The Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior noted that the Qatari Human Rights Day is an affirmation that commitment to human rights is a strategic right for the State of Qatar, and that providing the necessary guarantees for it has become an integral part of all state institutions, in addition to promoting the rule of law and good governance.
He highlighted the cooperation between the ministry and the National Human Rights Committee in terms the processing of human rights complaints among other initiatives related to promoting human rights.
Brigadier General Al Mohannadi emphasized that promoting and protecting human rights represents the backbone of the comprehensive reform policy pursued by Qatar, as development of human capital along with the protection and promotion of human rights are at the top of the country's priorities.
The Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior indicated that the State of Qatar is paying increasing attention to the issue of promoting and protecting human rights and in enhancing the legislative and institutional structure for human rights, and in the state's commitment to present and discuss its reports with the international monitoring mechanisms concerned with human rights.
