Ooredoo Qatar has said it will work closely with Porsche Centre Doha, Al Boraq Automobiles Co, to install Ooredoo charging stations in the parking area of Ooredoo Towers.
This initiative is confirmed for expansion to three further branches in the near future, with the overall aim of encouraging the use of low-emission transportation solutions, Ooredoo has said in a statement.
The new initiative is part of a joint sustainability effort to benefit the environment. It is expected that, over time, the movement to electric or hybrid cars will make a direct impact, as electric cars produce zero emissions, while hybrid vehicles have reduced CO2 emissions.
Employees will be able to charge electrical vehicles while at work, making it easier for them to be able to rely on such vehicles for sustainable transport. Customers will also be able to benefit from the charging stations, plugging their vehicles in to charge while they visit Ooredoo Towers, the statement notes.
Yousuf Abdulla al-Kubaisi, chief operating officer at Ooredoo Qatar, said: “As our sustainability efforts progress, in line with our corporate social responsibility strategy and our commitment to the United Nations Sustainability Goals, it is important for us to think in a holistic manner. Given this commitment to sustainability is at the core of our operations, it makes sense for us to give our colleagues every opportunity to share this commitment, and helping them travel to and from their workplace via sustainable transport well demonstrates our commitment.
“Being able to offer our customers this charging facility while they visit our premises also adds value. We’re proud to be working with such a globally recognised brand on such a worthwhile initiative.”
Salman Jassem al-Darwish, chairman and CEO of Porsche Centre Doha, said the strategic partnership with Ooredoo is in line with Porsche’s commitment to the future of electromobility and CO2 reduction. “With the new, all-electric Taycan 4S, Turbo and Turbo S models that are now available to order, Porsche is heavily investing in its e-Performance portfolio and an integral part of that is ensuring our charging stations are accessible to not only owners of Porsche electric and hybrid vehicles, but also to visitors and employees of Ooredoo,” he added.
