Qous, who is the first product of the mighty Treve, opened his scorecard at Chantilly in France yesterday on his second outing.
The Al Shaqab Racing’s homebred bay colt ran patiently in the back of the field in the Prix du Mont Alta and showed a very nice turn of foot to beat more experienced horses.
The son of Dubawi is trained by Andre Fabre and was ridden by Vincent Cheminaud to a short-head win in the 2,100m Class2 run for three-year-olds.
L’aigle, trained by S. Nigge and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, was the runner-up. Dge Of Victory was a further short head behind in third. He is trained by JC Rouget and was ridden by Cristian Demuro.
Rupert Pritchard-Gordon, Al Shaqab Racing’s representative, said : “He did not have an easy trip for his debut. He has progressed since. He is a very nice horse, very relaxed, and he showed a nice turn of foot today. André Fabre will decide for his next start. He is not very precocious and I think he is good enough to win a Listed race.”
Treve, the two-time winner of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in 2013 and 2014, also has a two-year-old filly by Shalaa, named Paris, a yearling filly by Siyouni and a filly foal by Sea The Stars, and has been covered by Kingman.
