In the colours of Khalid Rashid al-Mohannadi, Honey Cake netted the second win of her young career at ParisLongchamp in the Prix de la Tour Saint-Jacques, a Class 2 race over seven feet for three-year-olds.
In the hands of Olivier Peslier, bay filly was smartly away and was keen in the early stages. Initially, Peslier looked to try to settle her in second, but she proved too free and so he let her go on into the lead.
The Henri Alex Pantall-trained filly set a smart pace and once on the final straight, she came under pressure from Peslier, pulling clear of her rivals before they had begun the chase.
She stayed on bravely and just held off a very strong finish from Maxime Guyon-ridden Femina, trained by C. Laffon-Parias. Ecurie Normandie Pur Sang’s Racing Glory was a further half-a-length behind the two fillies. The F. Chappet-trained bay colt was ridden by Stephane Pasquier.
Honey Cake was a winner at Deauville as a two-year-old. She had two starts earlier this year and both were in Stakes races over a mile where she was unable to find a place. The drop back to 1,400m yesterday seemed to suit her. She is from the family of Dohaa Dream, the Prix Chaudenay (Group 2) winner for Al Shaqab Racing. She was bought at the Arqana Breeze-up as a two-year-old.
