Creative writing is also an art. It takes tireless effort and persistent patience to be able to jot down a story and to present it to an audience.
Doha-based Indian expatriate Amarr Thokale once had a dream about a story that he wanted to write down and share with others. It took him years to finally bring about his first novel – Flying Truth – A Saga of Redefining the Value of Friendship.
Amarr has been associated with the airline industry for over 25 years now. “I love arts and creativity and try to utilise it in my daily life and in my profession. My name is included in ‘Limca Book of Record Holder’ in India for micro-writing. I achieved this feat in 1996. I wrote 202,741 characters on a single side of a postcard; breaking the earlier record of 8,964 characters.
“Being a creative person and having interest in reading novels gave impetus to my mind and heart to write down a novel which I had long intended to write.”
Sharing with Community how he was inspired to begin creative writing, Amarr said: “My mother is a poet and my father is a lawyer in Mumbai. Both are artistic in views. I inherited a golden rule from my parents – never let your dream die. On October 16, 2015, I dreamed of a story; and it made me restless throughout that night. I was compelled to sit and write down the story. Basically, being a technical person, initially to write a story was a very difficult task for me.
“But my willpower strengthened me to write a story; and to my surprise, I wrote 100 pages within two days. I was astonished to see 100 pages story completed by me with all characters and dialogues. I felt as if all the characters written down were speaking to me and were telling their story. I discussed the story with my wife and she motivated me to go ahead and write a novel.
“Finally; I decided to fulfill my dream of writing the first Novel. I used to write this novel after my office hours. It took me almost three years to complete my novel which spreads in 352 pages. I have named it Flying Truth – A Saga of Redefining the Value of Friendship.
The writer found it equally difficult to get the novel published. “It was a herculean task to get it published. Almost for one year I tried many publishing agents but got rejected from all of them. Finally, one day I received an e-mail from Crossword Publisher showing their interest in publishing my story. It was great day of my life. Crossword is the largest chain of book stores in India.
“Moreover Flying Truth is one of the India’s first novel which has AR interface from the book cover for the readers. I wanted to provide unique book reading experience to the readers which they must have never experienced before. It took almost four years and three months to create my first novel.”
Speaking about the subject matter of the novel, Amarr said: “It is an extraordinary story of the power of special bonds. Things start to go awry when the intuition of innocent and ethical Aneeka starts leading her to danger and possible death. She starts to hear her missing best friend’s voice inside her head and feels her presence around her.
“The book is all about the question that could a strong friendship and stronger gut instincts help in solving a mystery? Aneeka sets on a mission to uncover the Flying Truth while playing the roles of a perfect daughter, a loving wife and a true friend. Every one of us is loyal to our friendship and would desire to have a friend like Aneeka with us; throughout our life journey.”
The writer lays stress on the need for cherishing one’s dreams and pursuing them relentlessly.
“My novel is a creation of my dream and I believe one should follow the intuition and unleash it with full potential. Keep on dreaming and you will arrive at you destination. I dedicate my novel to my loving parents and to all the parents for the sacrifice they make to give shape and fulfill their children’s dreams.”
