The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has said it is building a shaded space with a capacity of 8,000 beds, as well as a field hospital with 150 beds, which will be equipped with all the required equipment and supplies.
This was informed through an infographic issued Saturday by Ashghal, highlighting its role in facing the ongoing Covid-19 situation.
According to the infographic, Ashghal has urged companies and contractors to partake in community service. Also among its efforts is holding an awareness session to prevent the spread of the virus, targeted towards companies and contractors working on Ashghal projects.
Besides, Ashghal ambassadors are participating in voluntary work with Qatar Charity in view of the current situation.
The authority is establishing an event management team in the Assets Affairs section, which will follow the developments pertaining to Covid-19 and conduct its work accordingly.
It is conducting meetings via video/voice conference and reducing the number of people allowed to use the elevator to only four at a time.
Further, Ashghal is providing medical masks to workers and obliging them to wear the same.
The authority has said it is temporarily suspending cleaning and hospitality services, while a study was conducted in its building to test the existence of the virus in air samples over an eight-hour period during working hours. This was done in co-operation with the entities concerned.
There is daily sanitising of workers' accommodation and transportation vehicles before and after use, as well as site offices before and after each shift.
The authority is also taking immediate medical action if symptoms are seen among workers.
Ashghal has stressed that it is implementing the decision of HE the Prime Minister to reduce the number of employees to 20% of the total workforce, while 80% will start working from home. This has been done by providing the employees with electronic devices in order to enable them to carry on with their work.
The authority has established a flexible plan for employees in the Assets Affairs section to ensure that roads and drainage networks are monitored round the clock.
Ashghal has been conducting workshops and awareness campaigns at worksites since the start of the coronavirus crisis. It is also providing food and personal necessities to workers so that they can avoid going out after work.
It is implementing all precautionary measures at all its project sites, conducting periodic inspections of workers at the sites in order to verify compliance with health and safety standards and the Ministry of Public Health's instructions.
Ashghal has installed thermal cameras in workers' accommodation units to measure their temperature remotely and prevent crowding that may be caused by checking the temperature manually.
The authority is encouraging customers to benefit from its E-services or contact the call centre at 188.
Meanwhile, Ashghal has suspended services pertaining to dewatering and tanker permits for the next three months. Current permit holders may continue their operations without renewing an expired permit during this period.
