The fourth edition of the Katara Aquathlon, a swim-run multisport activity, was organised by Mad Triathlon and held at the Katara Cultural Village on the National Sport Day on Tuesday. The event, which was organised with the support of Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation, took place at the Beach Area of Katara Cultural Village.
Aquathlon forms a part of the growing multi-sports family of events in Qatar, and this year’s event consisted of a continuous two-stage race, which was made up of a 750m open water swim, followed by a 5km run.
The fourth edition of the event allowed athletes to access a new swim location. Starting from the stunning private Katara Beach 1, participants took to the ocean completing a triangular ocean swim course before heading out onto their leg through the newly opened and most scenic run through the Katara North Hill running tracks.
The competition saw participants categorised as nationals, open male, open female and team relays.
Facing a chilly early morning start, the athletes braved the cold swim, with all managing to finish safely under the watchful eye of trained team of safety lifeguards made up of members of Sharq Village and Spa swim safety team, and the Katara lifeguards.
The run offered a bit of a challenge with most of it in the undulating north hills. Those who completed the event received finisher medals and refreshments. The top finisher were awarded which trophies.
The organisers thanked their volunteers and sponsors, including Sharq Village & Spa, McDonald’s, Haidari Trading, Oriental Trading Company (OTC), Rayyan Water, Prolines Qatar, Never Wasted, for their contribution to the success of the Aquathlon.
