New opportunities for students, faculty, and the generation of research will be opened up through a collaboration between Qatar Foundation and Qatar University, which was announced yesterday. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two organisations, signed during the ‘I AM QF’ event at Qatar National Convention Centre, will bolster a longstanding partnership framework intended to strengthen Qatar’s education ecosystem and the nation’s research efforts.
The agreement will see Qatar Foundation (QF) and Qatar University (QU) exchange faculty and expertise to enable cross-institutional teaching, and promote the participation of their respective student bodies in each other’s activities, while they will also explore opportunities to jointly establish new student-focused events. It also outlines a commitment to collaborating in fields of research that can benefit entities in Qatar, and to identifying potential research partnerships with universities and other institutions both within Qatar and beyond.
Dr Ahmad M Hasnah, president of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) – a member of QF – and Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham, president of Qatar University, signed the co-operation agreement yesterday.
“This memorandum of understanding signifies the importance of strategic collaboration, bringing together organisations that are dedicated to furthering education, science, and research, and to playing a vital role in the country’s future,” Dr Hasnah said.
Dr al-Derham said the collaboration reflected the shared goals of QF and QU in contributing to realising Qatar’s national vision, saying, “The agreement we signed today undoubtedly represents the already active efforts of our cooperation. It will also strengthen our partnership to achieve more, such as the exchange of faculty, research, studies, publishing and the exchange of publications, as well as allowing us to co-organise conferences. Together, QU and QF will achieve a great deal for the benefit of our nation, Qatar, and this will be accomplished through the quality of research executed with our researchers, who strive to shed the spotlight on the most important issues of our society, and finding a solution to them.”
