Officials from the district cooling services department of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) Monday visited the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) camp at Duhail to update the cooling system of the plant.
According to a statement by Kahramaa, the visit was aimed at enhancing alternative water sources used for cooling purposes and thus preserve potable water, improving energy efficiency and increasing community awareness about the importance of using the district cooling system.
The camp, according to the statement, has a current cooling capacity of 40,400 tonnes and uses the latest energy-efficient refrigeration systems. The camp with many administrative and residential buildings and advanced facilities need a new district cooling plant to be added with the same current cooling capacity.
Treated wastewater will be used for cooling purposes directly and without additions to any chemicals through advanced technologies. The water from the cooling plant is used to irrigate the green areas in the camp.
With the aim of enhancing the water security in Qatar, Kahramaa has emphasised the importance of using treated wastewater or any alternative water resources available and suitable for cooling purposes instead of using potable water in all district cooling stations.
