HE the Director of Public Security Major-General Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi has stressed the importance of raising awareness about crime as a successful means to prevent it before it occurs.
In a statement made on the sidelines of an awareness seminar organised by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation at the Ministry of Interior on ways to prevent crime, HE al-Khulaifi underlined that the ministry was keen to communicate with the various parties concerned in this regard with a view to spreading awareness of all facts related to criminal methods, including economic crimes, especially in light of the rapid technological development and the exploitation of this development in committing crimes.
The seminar was aimed at raising the awareness of the employees of the financial institutions in Qatar within the framework of co-operation and co-ordination between the Ministry of Interior and the financial and banking sector to combat crime.
Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Brigadier General Jamal Mohamed al-Kaabi said that by adhering to preventive measures, crimes could be avoided before they occurred. The Ministry of Interior aims to reduce crime rates in the country and maintain the security and safety of citizens and residents.
Al-Kaabi stressed that the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations plays an active role in co-operation with the Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Interior and other bodies through various media campaigns to make the society aware of the causes and methods used in some common crimes, in which the victim (sometimes) plays a role in their occurrence as a result of negligence and lack of due diligence.
The seminar dealt with several topics, including a working paper by CID, which was presented by Major Nawaf Mohamed al-Otaibi, in which he referred to incidents of theft of bank customers, and gave several tips and guidance to enhance security and reduce this crime.
Captain Engineer Madawi Saeed al-Qahtani, assistant director of the Department of Economic and Cyber Crimes, addressed the electronic systems provided by the financial sector to customers, and the exploitation of some of these systems to commit crimes and theft of bank customers, through various methods, which requires research on the best awareness and technical solutions.
Major Nasser Mohamed al-Nuaimi, from the Criminal Laboratory Department, talked about means of securing currencies and cheques, including identifying real and false currencies.
Several directors of the departments of the Ministry of Interior and directors of legal and banking affairs in financial institutions operating in Qatar attended the seminar.
