Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) newest hospital - Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital (HMGH) - has completed the first phase of its surgical services implementation programme, it has been announced.

Two operating theatres for elective general surgery and urology procedures are now open, and upwards of 15 surgeries are expected to be performed each week as part of the initial phase of the implementation of the new service, HMC has said in a statement.

Dr Hani Kilani, medical director of Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, called the launch of the new service a noteworthy accomplishment. He said those living and working in the Doha Industrial Area will now benefit from an even wider range of services.

Also, the start of surgical services at Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital is expected to free up operating theatre capacity across HMC’s network of hospitals, he added.

“With the opening of our new operating theatres, we can now offer an even wider range of services at our state-of-the-art facility. By offering both clinics and surgery from within a single dedicated location, patients can access high-quality surgical treatment and follow-up care without needing to travel to different locations for pre- and post-surgery care and appointments,” said Dr Kilani.

Phase 2 of the surgical services implementation, which is expected to commence in the coming months, will include the opening of additional operating theatres, increasing capacity for elective surgical procedures and providing emergency surgery and other specialties, including orthopaedics and hand surgery, the statement notes.

Hussein Ishaq, executive director of Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, said last year’s opening of the community-based hospital has brought care closer to where it is needed in the community and helped relieve pressure across HMC’s hospitals and clinics, and particularly emergency services at the Hamad General and Al Wakra hospitals.

“Since opening last year, Hazm Mebaireek has had a positive impact on the growth in healthcare capacity across HMC. By offering community-based quality healthcare to those living and working in the Industrial Area of Doha, patients who used to have to travel further afield to access clinical, emergency and surgical care within a hospital setting, can now access the care they need on their doorstep. This is not only far more convenient for them but also helps lessen the load on our busy hospitals in Doha,” said Ishaq.

Located in the Doha Industrial Area, Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital provides care for adult male patients and particularly those living and working in that part of the country.

The hospital, which was officially opened in December 2018, offers a range of outpatient, inpatient and emergency care service. To view a location map for Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital, one can visit https://bit.ly/31JkMJe
