The United Nations General Assembly chose HE Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani and Permanent Representative of New Zealand Ambassador, Craig John Hawke, to facilitate and lead consultations with member states that will lead to a high-level meeting on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women.
The 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, which adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPFA), is set to coincide with the 75th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2020.
Preparations for the high-level meeting began during two consultation sessions, the first on 13 June, followed by a second meeting on June 25.
In a letter addressed to all member states of the United Nations, President of the UN General Assembly for the 73rd session Maria Fernanda Espinosa explained that the celebration of the 25th anniversary would be held through a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the general debate of the 75th session of the General Assembly.
She expressed her gratitude and thanks to HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani for taking this task and expressed her confidence to receive full co-operation and support from member states.
