Several Olympic medallists will take to the Losail Shooting Range today, as a trap practice round will kick off proceedings in the Qatar Open Shotgun Championship.
As many as 280 shooters from 38 countries will take part in the ninth edition of the event.
Besides international shooters, a large number of Qatari shooters will also be vying for top honours, including local hero and 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah.
Speaking on the occasion, tournament director Abdullah Ali al-Mutawa al-Hammadi, said, “The tournament will see great competition between all the participants as the event will provide good preparation work ahead of next year’s Olympic Games in Japan.”
The organising committee announced that the competition will feature both men and women shooters. The participating countries are Qatar, Australia, Croatia, China, Finland, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, Czech Republic, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Jordan, Iran, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, US, Ukraine, Malaysia, Poland, Peru, Pakistan, Japan, Lithuania, India, Georgia and Denmark.
The competition will be held in the trap, double trap and skeet categories. In the trap category, the Qatar team will be represented by Rashid al-Athba, Nasser al-Humaidi, Mohamed al-Rumaihi, Mohamed Dablan, Hamad al-Athba, Hamad al-Athabi, Abdulaziz al-Athba, Khalid al-Mohannadi, Khalifa al-Attiyah and Ghanem al-Nuaimi.
In the women’s trap, Qatari participants are Amna al-Abdullah, Noura al-Ali, Banna Ali, Kholoud al-Khalaf, Nawal al-Khalaf and Noura al-Mohannadi.
In the youth category, the local hopes rest on Hussein al-Banai, Ibrahim al-Tamimi, Abdulrahman al-Nuaimi, Salem al-Marri, Mohamed Abdul Mohsen and Abdulaziz Abdul Mohsen.
