Under the patronage of chairperson, HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Qatar Museums (QM) is participating in the 29th Doha International Book Fair by presenting a variety of publications and a wide programme of events.
The book fair is taking place until December 8 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.
This year’s major highlight is the unveiling of an exclusive collector’s edition of books produced in collaboration with the National Library of Poland.
The edition includes four hardbound volumes of a manuscript by Count Waclaw Seweryn Rzewuski, a Polish explorer, poet, orientalist and horse expert .
QM will also be hosting world-acclaimed Iraqi artist Dia al-Azzawi for a book signing of his retrospective monograph published earlier this year, featuring over 600 artworks, archival material and in-depth essays by prominent art-historians.
Catering to the young audience, QM will launch a special children’s story inspired by the natural history collection of the National Museum of Qatar.
This beautifully illustrated book is a collaboration between Qatari author Shaikha al-Zeyara and long-term resident Charlene Kasdorf. Designed for 4- to 6-year-olds, this adventure encourages children to appreciate animals and help protect their habitats.
QM will also be featuring its latest exhibition catalogue, ‘Syria Matters’, dedicated to Syria’s unique cultural heritage at a critical moment of its history.
The book showcases over 120 objects, including some of the most important items from the collection of the Museum of Islamic art, in addition to significant local and international loans.
Another highlight is the programme of art and cultural activities and workshops targeting both children and adults, details of which can be found on QM’s social media platforms.
Commenting on QM’s participation at the book fair, Randa Takieddine, acting director of QM Publications, stated: “We are committed to supporting QM’s vision to be a global leader in the world of museums, art, heritage and creativity. Our books document and promote QM’s collections, exhibitions and heritage sites, bringing them closer to the local audiences, and carrying Qatar’s vision to the international arts and cultural sector.
“The Doha International Book Fair is a platform to showcase the extensive range of our publications, and an excellent opportunity to engage with the community, nurturing an educational culture and highlighting the importance of arts and museums.”
