Qatar has categorically denied recent reports based on rumours that Doha has sent an alleged message to the Israeli prime minister's office.
In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "We have noted the enthusiasm with which some circles have received what was reported in the Israeli media. We also wondered what their unbridled imagination was about the false news of their consistent attempts to distort the image of the State of Qatar and its relentless efforts to support the steadfastness and struggle of the Palestinian people in order to restore their legitimate rights.
"It is well known that the State of Qatar has been playing the role of mediator in lifting the injustice imposed on the Palestinian people besieged in the Gaza Strip for years.
The statement said mediation requires holding meetings with all parties, but distorting the facts to undermine the noble efforts aimed at saving the Palestinian blood as well as ensuring the rights of Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims in Al-Quds Al-Sharif is worthy to be denounced.
"Also as part of the distortion of facts process was circulation of a picture of HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, with a businessman in the United States , where the systematic campaign of distortion tried to focus on the religion of the man as an effort to link this meeting arbitrarily with Israel and the renunciation of the Palestinian and Islamic right in Jerusalem," the statement said.
"The State of Qatar, which has been hosting interfaith dialogue conferences for years, has no enmity with religion or race, which is the tolerance we have been inspired from true Islam. But the main problem lies in the Israeli occupation and its practices towards the brotherly Palestinian people, " said the statement.
