There is always a distinct standard to the arrangements made for any sporting event hosted in Qatar. Similarly, the organising committee of the 48th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships Doha 2018 is making sure that everything connected to the first such championships in the Middle East lives up to that class.
Mohamed al-Mesnad, Chairman of the Event Services Committee of the Organising Committee of the world gymnastics (to be held at the Aspire Dome from October 25 to November 3) said all efforts are being exerted by all committees to get all arrangements ready well in time.
Providing details, he said that five five-star hotels in Doha have been identified where athletes, officials and media persons will be put up for the event.
“We will be hosting the delegations and other visitors at Western, Radisson Blu, Ezdan, MovenPick and Holiday Villa. We are expecting over 1,500 people including athletes, administrators, officials and media during the period of the tournament,” he said, adding, “there will be press conferences during the next stage in announce the signing with each hotel for the tournament”.
“Unlike others, we shall be offering five-star services for all, and we are also keen to provide all possible facilities for visitors during the period.
With regards to transportation, he said, “The transportation plan for the event has been prepared for all visitors in coordination with government agencies such as Hamad International Airport and other sectors.
“Transportation will be provided permanently during the tournament to registered delegates and members of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to the venues. The transport service will also include the media. The Organising Committee shall ensure that all media members are facilitated to cover the tournament with the best efforts and at ease.”
Al-Mesnad stressed that all aspects of security are also being discussed in detail and being taken care of. “We have taken care of all security and safety measures to the fullest extent possible. We are keen to provide all means to facilitate the delegations. We will ensure that the food provided is according to the different cultures of each participating delegation,” he said.
“The official arrival of the delegations will start on October 19, but there are some delegations that may arrive earlier and set up preparation camps in Doha, but official access will begin on the 19th.” Al-Mesnad also praised the full co-operation between the various sub-committees. “Having worked during the World Championships for Disabled Athletes 2015, the World Swimming Championships in 2014, and other major tournaments, I can say that the coordination is excellent,” he said.
