Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has announced the opening of registration for volunteers and members of the community of both genders wishing to participate in the 8th disaster management camp, which will be held from October 23 through November 1, at the scout marine camp in Al Khor.
QRCS said that it seeks to attract youth cadres of citizens and residents aged between 18 and 40 as part of its efforts to educate the public about its mission and principles, and the value of charitable and voluntary work. It noted the importance of the camp in acquiring the skills of disaster preparedness and dealing with emergencies and accidents, whether occurring for themselves or others.

The disaster management camp has great regional and international attention, being the only training of its kind in Arabic. The camp aims to build a well-trained and qualified community-based in the field of disaster response and management, to provide relief to the affected, to improve coordination with relevant authorities and institutions, to minimise loss of life and property, and to help the community recover from the effects of disasters.
The camp covers several areas, including many specialised topics in disaster response, such as assessment and field co-ordination, shelter and registration, water and sanitation, nutrition and distribution, and familiarise participants with contingency planning and leadership in humanitarian work and global concepts such as Sphere project as well as restoring family ties.
