HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi has stressed that the aim of the ministry’s policy to revise the curriculum is to increase the efficiency of students and the quality of educational outputs.
The efforts are also aimed at addressing many of the challenges faced by teachers over the previous years, as well as by students in terms of weakness in some basic skills, he said.
Speaking to reporters at the conclusion of a reception held on Wednesday to welcome new Qatari teachers, HE the Minister noted that many of the lessons learned from the Qatar blockade would be included in the curriculum.
Earlier, he congratulated the new Qatari teachers on their new career, saying they are helping the ministry build national capabilities after completing an extensive national qualification programme.
He stressed the support teachers and the education sector require to build national capabilities and improve the academic performance of students in Qatar. HE the Minister noted that improving the efficiency of the educational process remains the top priority of the ministry, which is seeking to achieve the same through a number of policies, programmes and strategies. He highlighted some of those initiatives, including financial incentives that can attract high-school graduates who want to join the sector.
He expressed his gratitude for the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the inspirational vision of how education should be in the future.
He also lauded the directives of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani for his support of the country’s educational system.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi said in a press statement that there were plans to offer new land to the private sector to invest in education, noting the allocation of tenders for four buildings in this regard in different parts of the country.
He said there is a committee concerned with discussing tuition fees in private schools based on specific criteria, stressing in this context the importance given by the ministry to the interests of parents as well as investors and owners of schools at the same time.
He also noted that there are several programmes to attract people to the teaching profession such as the Tomouh programme implemented by the ministry in partnership with the College of Education at Qatar University, the teacher assistant programme held in partnership with Community College of Qatar, and the programme for attracting teachers as part of Teach for Qatar.
