The new QNB Stars League season, that kicks off on August 4, will be one of the best ever, top Qatar Stars League (QSL) official Hassan Rabia al-Kuwari said at a press conference yesterday.
The season’s opening press conference was also attended by QSL’s Competitions Department Director Ahmed al-Adsani, Head of Technical at Al Kass Sports Channel Turki al-Subaie and Mubarak Bilal, who represented the Ministry of Interior.
The higher officials joined hands to discuss matters relating to the start of new football season in Qatar.
QSL’s Executive Director of Marketing and Communications al-Kuwari said, “The 2018-19 football season will be an exceptional period of nine months as the world’s attention switches from the FIFA World Cup in Russia towards Qatar, the 2022 FIFA World Cup host.
“This makes us strive further to promote the country and FIFA World Cup that’ll be held here. We’ll work in an integrated manner with the Qatar Football Association and Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy since we’re all working as a team in order to present the best FIFA World Cup ever.
“We hope that the new QNB Stars League season will present the best-ever technical level of football in the way the teams play their matches. We also hope that the passion we’ve for football is also reflected in the coming weeks, months and years before the World Cup.”
The first phase of the QNB Stars League will kick off on August 4 and ends in November this year. The QNB Stars League is starting ahead of schedule this year due to Qatar national team’s busy international calendar. The Qatar national team will feature in the 2019 Asian Cup to be held in the UAE from January 5 to February 1. Also, top QNB Stars League teams Al Duhail and Al Sadd are featuring in the quarter-finals stages of the 2018 AFC Champions League.
The AFC Champions League matches involving Al Duhail and Al Sadd matches will be played on August 27 and 28, September 18 and 19. If Al Duhail and Al Sadd advance in the AFC Champions League, their QNB Stars League matches will be rescheduled for dates that are suitable to the two sides.
