Dr Ioannis Konstantinidis, assistant professor of international law at Qatar University College of Law and affiliate member at QU Centre for Law and Development (CLD), has been nominated on the list of arbitrators under Annex VII of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). UNCLOS governs the conduct of states in their uses of the ocean.
Dr Ioannis Konstantinidis said: “I am delighted and honoured to be nominated on the list of arbitrators under Annex VII of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) by the Republic of Madagascar. UNCLOS was adopted 36 years ago marking an enormous success of the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea. Dispute settlement under UNCLOS is compulsory. Arbitration under Annex VII to UNCLOS is one of those means contributing to the peaceful resolution of law of the sea related disputes between states.”
CLD director Dr Jon Truby said: “This is a wonderful and well deserved achievement which represents the high calibre work conducted by Dr Ioannis in the field of international law and arbitration. Arbitration is essential to solving law of the sea disputes peacefully between states. This nomination delivers a strong base for the centre’s research and capacity-building agenda in the field of international law and arbitration.”
