The rehabilitation of Boracay island will bring long-lasting benefits to locals and the entire country, Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has said.
Go, who supervised the giving of financial assistance to displaced Boracay workers, said he was instructed by President Rodrigo Duterte to check the progress of the island’s rehabilitation.
“The president always puts the interest of the majority at the forefront. Whatever his plans are for Boracay, rest assured that they will be for the betterment of every Filipino, especially the Boracay residents,” he said.
Before going to Boracay, Go was in Cagayan de Oro and Dumaguete where thousands of his supporters gathered to urge him to run for senator in 2019. But he said it is too early to discuss politics.
“My focus for now is doing my job. I’m advancing the president’s campaign against drugs, criminality and corruption. It’s only because of my job to help that I’m usually seen in public,” he said.
Go appealed to thousands of students in Dumaguete City to shun illegal drugs.
“We must avoid illegal drugs because they shrink our brains,” he said.
Go was guest of honour and speaker during the Nutri-Fest 2018, a project of the local government of Dumaguete headed by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, in line with the celebration of Nutrition Month this July.
In his brief message, Go said the Duterte administration remains committed to curb the problem of illegal drugs and corruption in government.
On peace and order, he reiterated that the declaration of martial law in Mindanao was needed to crush terrorism and attain peace.
“If he (Duterte) did not finish the war in Marawi, areas like Manila, Davao, Gensan and Cagayan would have been in danger,” he said.
Go also urged local officials to join hands and fight illegal drugs when he represented the president at the Anti-Drug Summit in Victorias, Negros Occidental.
“Barangay and SK officials are important in the success of the campaign against illegal drugs because they are the ones who know the persons involved in drugs. If the local officials are against drugs, it will not fester in their locality,” Go said.
