Oryx GTL’s state-of-the-art driving simulator at Souq Waqif, which forms part of its Ramadan campaign to raise road safety awareness, has attracted more than 350 participants from day 10 to 20 of the holy month.
“We are proud to continue our commitment to road safety through our Ramadan campaign and future events planned for later in 2018,” Oryx GTL’s public relations and communications head Sheikh Abdullah bin Mubarak al-Thani said.
He expressed confidence that participants in the campaign will gain valuable skills to help keep themselves, their families and others safe on our roads.
The Ramadan campaign was organised in association with the General Directorate of Traffic and managed by Engineering Solutions, a local provider of advanced driving simulators and road safety education technology.
Oryx GTL continues to sponsor the unique campaign as part of its commitment to help address some of Qatar’s most pressing road safety challenges.
The campaign attracted more than 1,450 participants since its inception in December 2017 and recently expanded its scope to target 10-21 year-olds.
According to Oryx GTL, the campaign seeks to transform Qatar’s youth into road safety ambassadors through interactive presentations and one-to-one driving simulator training at schools and select public campaigns.
The programme will continue in September 2018, targeting independent schools and train 600 more participants within this year.
The simulator, designed and built 100% in Qatar, offered participants the opportunity to experience real-world driving conditions in a completely safe environment.
The high-tech facility features a real car cockpit with a wrap-around screen and an artificial intelligence engine that reflects common behaviours on Qatar’s roads.
“Our team prides itself in promoting a local road safety culture through unique technical innovations.
“The Oryx GTL road safety campaign has been a great platform to reach out to Qatari Youth and we look forward to our continued partnership,” Engineering Solutions’ operations manager Raffat Zreik said.
