Asif Ashraf continued his good run in the B and C Divisions category and lifted his team Selex to the title at the Ramadan Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament with a superb 73 off 51 deliveries during a six-wicket triumph against Friends XI .
At the Asian Town Cricket Stadium, Friends XI made 152 for eight, riding Said Mohamed’s knock. Chasing a demanding target, Selex steadily built up the innings around the knock of Ashraf.
The opener struck two big sixes and 10 well-timed boundaries in his half-century, while helping Selex get 63 runs for the first wicket with Shihab (10). He mustered another 50 runs for the second wicket in which new player Suresh contributed only 10.
A mini collapse followed after the departure of Ashraf at 113 in the 14th over. Selex suffered two more blows within five runs. However, Mansoor went on to hit 17 not out and Sherin made an unbeaten nine to set up the victory in 19.1 overs.
Earlier, Said Mohamed rifled two sixes and five fours to post 41 in 23 balls for Friends XI, who were struggling at four down for 58 in 11 overs. Dawood, who was among the first four players to be out, made a brisk 24 with a six and four boundaries.
Extras 34 pushed their total beyond 150-mark. Shihab, Mansoor and Ashraf all snapped two wickets apiece, while Sherin and Suresh shared two. Ashraf was adjudged the player-of-the-final. The Best Player-of-the-Tournament Award went to Saleem of Friends XI.
Qatar Cricket Association Operations Manager Manzoor Ahmad and QCA Domestic Cricket Head Gul Khan Jadoun presented the trophies and awards. The tournament was organised to offer competitive opportunities to local players at the initiative of QCA President Yousuf Jeham al-Kuwari as a part of the sport development strategy.
