Al Hamra and Commercial Bank Qatar posted contrasting wins to enter the semi-finals of the Ramadan Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, organised by the Qatar Cricket Association.
At the Asian Town Cricket Stadium, Al Hamra crushed Khyber Club by 10 wickets in the B and C Divisions category, while CBQ endured many anxious moments before winning by nine runs against Redco.
Dinesh of Al Hamra was a standout performer. His four for 13 and Shafiq’s two for 15 shot out Khyber Club for 95 in 15.1 overs. Khalid played a splendid knock despite deep crisis and his 28-ball 49 included three sixes and as many boundaries. Gul Hayat (14) and Basharat (10) were the other double-digit scorers.
Omar, Aman and Lasantha took one wicket each.
Dinesh, the man of the match, struck seven boundaries in his unbeaten 41 to set up the victory in 7.5 overs. Other opener Ajmal smashed two sixes and four boundaries to make 40 not out in 24 balls.
In other match, CBQ put up a massive 183 for seven against Redco as man-of-the-match Israr slammed four sixes and eight fours during his thrilling 40-ball 75. Moazzam struck a six and three fours to post 34 off 33 balls.
Hadi added a crucial 17 off nine balls, including a six and two fours. Inam, Waseem and Arslan all shared six wickets.
But when Redco launched the pursuit, CBQ bowled quite wayward and conceded 34 extras, including 21 through wides. As a result, Redco threatened to script a surprise triumph. However, Lithan and Bilal put the brakes with two scalps each to restrict the rivals at 174 for nine.
Izhar led the batting honours with 30, including two sixes and three fours. Rawid added 26 and Rasmy made 23 off 13 balls, Marso and Rifan got 14 each. Asanka’s haul cost him very dear (two for 47).
