International Nepali Muslim Society (INMS) recently organised ‘Eid Mubarak’ programme to celebrate Eid al-Fitr at Shalimar Palace. The programme was chaired by Mohammed Muktada Musalman, President of INMS. Samim Miya Ansari, President of National Muslim Struggle Alliance, was the chief guest on the occasion. Professor Ramesh Prasad Koirala, Ambassador of Nepal to Qatar, attended the programme as the guest of honour.
Other prominent participants were namely, Gayatri Poudel, Second Secretary of Nepali embassy; TB Karki, Ramhari Gaire Hussain Khan, Sagar Nepal, Narendra Bhatt, Bil Gurung, Kedar Bhusal, Chanak Pokheral, Dev Pariyar, Nabin Pokheral, Abdul Basid, and Karim Miya, all noted community leaders. The participants exchanged Eid greetings with each other and celebrated the occasion with joy and fervour.
Speaking to the gathering, the chief guest extended his Eid greetings to all Nepali people living in Qatar. Eid is a great time when the Muslims around the world focus on prayer, fasting, giving charity, and religious devotion, he said.
Ambassador Koirala extended Eid al-Fitr greetings to all Nepali Muslims praying for their happiness, peace and prosperity. He added the Eid celebrations would inspire all the Nepali people towards reconciliation, unity and peace. He said that such religious occasions would help strengthen national unity and promote social harmony, economic and social development.
Amina Khan, Vice President of Nepali Women Society, said Eid marked the end of holy month of Ramadan. She added that on the Eid celebrations, the Muslim community offered prayers and called for unity. During Ramadan, the Muslims ask for forgiveness, pray for guidance, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds, she said.
Hussain Khan, a community leader, said Eid was considered a day to promote universal fraternity, brotherhood and love. Karim Miya, President of Federation of Nepali Journalists Qatar, said Eid al-Fitr was a day of great merriment and the Muslims celebrated the day by meeting with friends and family, preparing sweet delicacies, wearing new clothes, giving each other gifts and putting up lights and other decorations in their homes.
The INMS president thanked all the participants and guests for attending the Eid celebrations with the Nepali Muslim community. He said his organisation aimed at working for improving bilateral ties between Nepal and Qatar with the focus on tourism. Tirtha Sangam Rai, a poet, recited a poem and earned applause from the gathering.
