Nepali Muslim Society (NMS) recently hosted an Iftar programme at Sheikh Eid Charity – Central Hall. The event was attended by Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former deputy Prime Minister of Nepal; Professor Ramesh Prasad Koirala, Nepali Ambassador to Qatar; Mani Ratna Sharma, chargé d’affaires at Nepali embassy; and Sheikh Nawaf al-Hummadi, General Manager of Sheikh Eid Charity.
The programme was chaired by Mohammed Ayub Haque, NMS President. It was the 10th edition of the annual Iftar programme organised by NMS. The event was also attended by prominent scholars, businesspersons, doctors, engineers, social workers, journalists and entrepreneurs.
The programme was aimed at bringing the Nepali expatriate community together for Iftar. The programme was attended by over 500 people. NMS provided letters of appreciation to the dignitaries for their valuable contribution and support to the community.
The ambassador appreciated the effort of NMS and said that he was happy to attend the gathering. He added that the Nepali community hall would be completed in 2019. The community hall will be a centre of activities for the Nepali expatriates, he said.
Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, speaking as the chief guest, thanked NMS. He extended his good wishes for Ramadan and Eid to the community. The Iftar programme should continue as it connects various communities from Nepal, he added.
Mohammed Ayub Haque thanked the chief guest, guests of honour, Embassy of Nepal, Sheikh Eid Charity, and the NMS members for their contributions in making the programme successful. He added that since 2009 NMS had been actively taking part in humanitarian activities and supporting the community in Qatar and Nepal. The society has continuously been playing a key role in developing better relations between Nepal and Qatar. The support from the Nepali expatriates and the embassy has been playing important role in success of NMS, he added. The president said that his organisation had worked to support victims of earthquakes and floods in Nepal and had organised blood donation drives in Qatar. The programme was hosted by B B Roshan Kharel.
