The unjust siege imposed on Qatar has highlighted the creative energies in the country and revealed to the world the potentials of Qatari society in various fields, HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali has said.
Addressing the first annual meeting of the Qatari authors’ forum, the Minister said that the current generation led by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani will leave a more powerful Qatar for future generations.
He said that Qatari writers and authors enjoy freedom of speech, that their words are appreciated at all levels, and that the Ministry of Culture and Sports provides all the support for their prosperity and growth.
The Minister said that the Qatari authors’ forum was established for the advancement of writers and authors through meetings, seminars, workshops and partnerships with different institutions.
In response to a question by Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the decision to adopt the statutes of Qatari authors’ forum and its main objectives, HE al-Ali stated that the objectives of this resolution revolve around the message of the forum in support of the vision of the Ministry of Culture and Sports towards a conscious society with “an authentic conscience and a healthy body”.
He stressed that the forum serves this vision, and the Ministry provides an incubator environment for creativity through its various departments and centres.
Regarding the role of the Department of Research and Cultural Studies in the Ministry in the printing of books and the decline in the number of publications currently, HE al-Ali said that the Ministry of Culture and Sports is currently working to provide the opportunity for the private sector and the community to launch their initiatives.
The Ministry provides an incubator environment for creativity in various fields, he added.
HE al-Ali said that the opening of Dar Al Kutub Al Qatariya, after its restoration, will be a new platform for authors’ meetings and activities. – QNA
