Windy conditions are expected to prevail in the country from Thursday while the temperature will be in the mid-40C levels in Doha and beyond that in the central parts of Qatar in the coming days, according to the weather report.
On Thursday, the mercury level is likely to rise to 48C in Al Khor and 46C in Doha.
The Qatar Met department said northwesterly windy conditions are expected in some parts of the country. Then, fresh to strong northwesterly winds will prevail in most areas during the daytime on Friday and on Saturday as the “Indian monsoon low deepens in the region”, the report states.
The wind speed will range from 18-28 knots, going up to 38 knots in some areas at times. This will result in blowing dust and a drop in visibility – to 2km or less – especially in the open areas.
Offshore areas, too, will see strong winds and high seas in the coming period, according to the forecast. The wave height is expected to rise to 5-8ft – reaching a high of 11ft at times – while winds will blow at speeds of up to 30 knots offshore.
The temperature will reach the mid-40C levels in Doha and go beyond that in the central areas during this period.
While the wind speed is expected to decrease on Sunday, becoming moderate to fresh, northwesterly winds (locally called Bawarih) will continue to blow with variable intensity next week, the weather office said.
