HE the Advisory Council Deputy Speaker Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Sulaiti yesterday received a delegation of Indonesian senators – members of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council – chaired by Abdul Aziz. 
HE the Deputy Speaker welcomed and appreciated the senators’ visit in the holy month of Ramadan. He also appreciates the role of Indonesian ambassador to Qatar Mohamed Basri Sidehabi in enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries. 
The delegation comprised senators from various provinces in Indonesia, such as Rosti Uli Purba (Riau), GKR Ayu Koes Indriyah (Jawa Tengah), Habib Hamid Abdullah (South Kalimantan), K H Muslihuddin Abdurrasyid (East Kalimantan) and Ir H Abdul Jabbar Toba (Southeast Sulawesi). It also included the embassy’s minister counsellor, Boy Dharmawan, and labour attache Mohamed Yusuf. They discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and a number of issues and topics of concern to the Advisory Council and the Indonesian parliament, especially in the field of labour, the Indonesian embassy said in a statement yesterday. 
Aziz appreciated the prominent role of the Advisory Council in enhancing ties between two countries, while also praising its role in formulating Qatar’s labour law that is aimed at the protection of migrant workers. With regard to the Gulf crisis, Aziz expressed hope that the crisis in the region would end soon.  
Meanwhile, Abdullah expressed hoped that the Advisory Council could give Indonesian professionals priority in playing an important role in the labour sector, especially in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. On the occasion, ambassador Sidehabi proposed that the labour agreement signed between Indonesia and Qatar in 2008 be readjusted in accordance with the existing Qatari labour law. 
According to Dharmawan, the aim of the senators’ visit to Qatar was to supervise the implementation of Indonesia’s Law No 18 of 2017 with regard to labour protection. In addition to the Advisory Council, the senators have also held talks with HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi as well as meetings with members of the Indonesian community in different cities of Qatar. In the end, Aziz invited the Advisory Council members to visit Indonesia.
