The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) carried out a surprise inspection campaign on a number of shops in a commercial complex located in the Old Airport area. The campaign resulted in the seizure and issuing of five violations ranging from commercial license expiry, failure to meet the general and special requirements of shops, and failure to display commercial licence visible inside the shop.
The ministry said that the inspection campaigns, which included 72 shops to monitor shops and restaurants’ compliance with the laws and regulations governing the conduct of commercial activities, are within a package of initiatives launched by the ministry on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
The ministry has intensified its inspection campaigns before and during the holy month as part of its keenness to regulate and monitor markets and commercial activities in the country and to monitor compliance with the laws and regulations governing the practice of commercial activities in order to control and detect violations and protect consumer rights. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has urged all merchants and shopkeepers to abide by the laws and regulations of the commercial activities and called upon all citizens and residents to report any irregularities or violations related to registration and commercial licences.
