The Public Works Authority,Ashghal, is participating as a strategic sponsor of the 15th International Construction Technology & Building Materials Exhibition “Project Qatar 2018”, and the Future Projects Qatar Conference at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The four-day exhibition which started on Monday, is being held under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.

In a statement, Ashghal president Saad bin Ahmad al-Muhannadi said the roads and infrastructure projects were in full swing and have not been affected by the ongoing blockade.

Ashghal has developed a plan to produce a number of materials locally, including cement and iron, and to recycle other materials such as asphalt, in order to achieve self-sufficiency.

Al-Muhannadi said Ashghal has also launched a number of initiatives to encourage local manufacturers and small contractors to participate in the implementation of their projects.

These include “Ta'heel” and “Qualification of Small Contractors” through which Ashghal has successfully rehabilitated more than 70 Qatari products and accredited 54 local suppliers in less than a year.

The Public Works Authority is showcasing at Project Qatar the most important projects completed during 2017 and 2018, including expressways, infrastructure, drainage or buildings, in addition to those currently being implemented.

Ashghal will also participate in the second day of the Future Projects Qatar Conference with a presentation by the Engineering Support Section head Fahad al-Otaibi about infrastructure development projects in the new citizens' sub-divisions, which serves more than 10,000 land plots distributed across 13 regions in all parts of the country.

Towards the end of the last year Ashghal launched an initiative to use recycled materials in Ashghal projects in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2017-2022. A pilot project was launched earlier this year under the supervision of Ashghal Research and Development Centre at the Quality and Safety Department. Recycled asphalt is now used in Izghawa area for the road maintenance project.

The authority is also working on another pilot project to use recycled materials from the construction waste in Rawdat Rashed landfill, in the sand base layers of one of the local roads development projects implemented by Ashghal.
