The number of Qatari students at the healthcare programmes at Qatar University has increased substantially, an official has disclosed.
Qatar University College of Health Sciences (QU-CHS) recently held the CHS Day to celebrate its remarkable achievements during the academic year 2017-2018.
“Following the establishment of QU Health, we started collaborating with the other cluster colleges in various aspects such as community service and research. Today, we celebrate the growth in the percentages of the enrolled Qatari-national students to CHS from 19.5% to 55.5% through several structured programmes such as SEHHA-Qatar Scientists in BioDiversity dual project,” said, CHS dean and QU Biomedical Research Centre,  director Prof Asma al-Thani.
The event included the distribution of certificates of appreciation to 195 clinical preceptors and field practice supervisors of the Biomedical Sciences, Human Nutrition and Public Health programs from Aspetar, Hamad Medical Corporation, Ministry of Public Health, Qatar Diabetes Association, Qatar Foundation, and Primary of Health Care Corporation.
A total of 149 students were also honoured for being listed on the Dean’s List for achieving a minimum GPA of 3.5 with a minimum of 12 credit hours. Additionally, 95 students from the Biomedical Sciences, Human Nutrition and Public Health programmes were appraised for entering their clinical practice in the last semester of their degrees, and 7 Biomedical Sciences graduates were appraised for passing the American Society for Clinical Pathology  Board of Certification  exam.  
“It was a year full of incredible accomplishments such as the reinforcement of our business relationships with various partners in the health care sector to secure the necessary support for our students, the enrolment of the first batch of students in the Physical Therapy programme for Fall 2018,  the approval of the Board of Regents to launch the MSc in Genetic Counselling in the Biomedical Sciences programme, the completion and the enrolment process for the first batch of physical therapy and rehabilitation science students in September 2018, the launch of the joint PhD programme with the colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy, the successful completion of the Human Nutrition accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, and the processing of the MSc in Clinical Dietetic,” Prof Asma added.
