The Center for Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS) yesterday signed an agreement with the Behavioural Healthcare Center (BHC) to establish collaboration in the field of graduate studies and organise joint studies and events.
QU vice president for Research and Graduate Studies Prof Mariam al-Maadeed and BHC general manager Rashid bin Mohamed al-Nuaimi signed the agreement in the presence of CHSS director Dr Kaltham al-Ghanim and officials from QU and BHC.
The terms of the agreement include collaboration between both parties to prepare scientific studies on “Social media and behavioural change among youth” and “Organisational structure of moral values among young in the Qatari society”, an international conference titled “The First International Interdisciplinary Congress on Behavioural Health”, and a roundtable on “Family role model”, as well as a seminar on “Youth and values”.
Prof al-Maadeed said: “QU has many competencies in various fields including energy, environment, health, and information technology as well as society and humanities. The support of behavioural health is very important for excellence in all disciplines and jobs. We are pleased to collaborate with the BHC in various areas such as research activities and student involvements, the organisation of joint events, and the provision of training to the members of the BHC.”
Al-Nuaimi said: “This agreement aims to serve Qatari society and to support research. QU is a prestigious educational institution that contributes to fulfilling the national aspirations towards sustainable development and a knowledge-based economy at the local and international levels. QU contributes to building knowledge as a cornerstone of the education process and knowledge transfer and production to shape generations who are capable to work in and deal with the labour market.
“BHC is committed to spread behavioural awareness within the society, to promote positive behaviour in compliance with the principles of Islam and ethical values, and to find the mechanisms that ensure the protection of the society’s members by preventing them from being victims to deviations and behavioural disorders.”
Dr Kaltham al-Ghanim said: “This collaboration serves to strengthen the agreement that was signed between CHSS and BHC last December with the aim to establish collaboration between both parties in the field of promoting behavioural health within the society, to boost the capacity of young people to face and solve behaviour deviation problems, and to provide effective therapeutic and awareness services in the field of behavioural health and behavioural and cognitive treatment.
“This agreement aligns with QU’s ongoing efforts to promote excellence in interdisciplinary research and conduct high-quality research projects that address contemporary challenges. It also underlines QU’s role to provide research consulting services and expertise to meet the needs of the society for theoretical and applied research studies in order to develop the productivity of various institutions, improve the quality of life and achieve the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the national development strategies.”
