HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, president of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), crowned the winners of the main races of HH the Emir Cup at the Arabian Camel Festival held at Al Shahaniya Racetrack on Wednesday.
Shafla camel owned by Rashid Nasser al-Marri won the first race, while camel Silver Dagger owned by Traiheeb Hamad al-Hajiri claimed the victory in the second race.
The hugely popular event continued yesterday where fans and owners saw strong competitions between the top Arabian camels at the same venue.

Qatar’s Bassem becomes one of top ten riders in world
Qatar’s Bassem Hassan Mohamed became of the top 10 horse riders at the international level, after two rounds of the Global Champions Tour.
Bassem is at 10th place with 37 points after the completion of two events in Mexico city and Miami. 
Qatar team consists of Sheikh Ali bin Khalid al-Thani and Bassem Hasan and will compete at the Shanghai Tour in China from today till Sunday.

Qatar duo to take part in Xiamen Beach Volleyball  
Qatar Beach Volleyball team of Ahmed Tijan and Cheriff Younis will take part in the prestigious Xiamen Beach Volleyball Championship in Ziamen city, China today.
It is worth mentioning that Qatar team put an impressive performance in the AVC Beach Volleyball Tour in Samila, Thailand last week. They were knocked out in the last eight after losing to Chinese counterparts.

Qatar to face Switzerland in football friendly
Qatar national football team will face Switzerland in a friendly football match on November 11, 2018. The international friendly will serve as a preparation for Qatar for the AFC Asian Cup of nations 2019. Switzerland is one of the best European teams, are in sixth place in FIFA rankings.

Curtains come down on SOP artistic gymnastics 
The artistic gymnastics competitions for primary and preparatory schools (boys) for 11th Schools Olympic Program 2018 (SOP) successfully concluded on Wednesday Qatar Gymnastics Federation President Ali al-Hitmi honoured the winners after the event, which was also attended by students’ parents, teachers and coaches. The SOP is held annually as a collaborative effort of Qatar School Sports Federation (QSSF) and Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with hundreds of student athletes competing from all over Qatar. The SOP committee aims to spread a culture of sports throughout Qatar’s schools and to engage the entire community in active and healthy lifestyles while retaining local values and traditions.
